After months of cold winds, snowstorms and freezing temperatures, Spring is finally coming back to Newfoundland! Trees and grasses are getting greener, birds sings among the branches, and the 2017 field season is fast approaching.
The bunnies certainly seem active around our study sites, as the pellets we found while walking through some of them last week show! So, fingers crossed!

Indeed, Yolanda, Eric and I took part in Terra Nova NP's 2017 Planning and Sharing Session, presenting TERG’s first year results and showing a glimpse of what’s to come in the next few years.
As the park hosts a number of activities, from species at risk monitoring to academic research to tourist engagement, this annual meeting is the park's ‘pause’ button - allowing everyone to catch up on everybody else’s work over the past year and on their plans for the next.

Our presentation (see the gallery below) was very well received and sparked a lot of interest among the Park’s staff, prompting some great suggestions of places where to place our new equipment to monitor the vertebrate community of Terra Nova.
Oh, yeah, did I mention the sweet new gear we got? 10 camera traps, complete of armour and security locks, as well as a brand new telemetry antenna with which to follow our bunnies! Pictures will come soon!
