As winter sets in, our fall trapping season comes to an end. Thankfully, we had an excellent field assistant to help us complete this. A big thank you to Abigail for helping us out!
For the 2016 trapping season we successfully trapped and collared 5 snowshoe hares!

Now that we got bunnies! It's time to figure out what kind of nutrients are available for them! We decided to 'ring in the new year' by packaging our samples and prepping them for stoichiometric analysis. A big thank you to our two undergrad assistants Adena Peters and Simon Boutin!
Unfortunately, we were unable to detect snowshoe hares at some of our older forest stand sites. To confirm this reality, I took a quick trip up to Terra Nova National Park and 'hopped' around the hare grids to see if I could find any tracks. Lo and behold, I found hare tracks at two of the grids where we did not catch any bunnies.
In February we plan to do a formal hare-track survey of the snowshoe hare grids. Fingers crossed we'll find some lynx tracks as well!
